Thursday, February 28, 2013

Following the asteroid impact in Russia on February 15, a number of websites and links have emerged examining various aspects of the dangers of future asteroid impacts, what to do in such an event, discussions about how to possibly deflect future inbound asteroids, where this particular asteroid originated from, and how the possibility of such an event should now be included in future overall disaster planning.

“What to Do in an Asteroid Emergency,” published in the Smithsonian’s Air & Space Magazine

“Disaster response planning and coordination” in the Near Earth Object Agreement, which is currently under discussion by the United Nations General Assembly.

How an asteroid might be deflected can be found on the NEOShield Project website.

The LiveScience website includes a webpage dedicated to “What if Your Town Were hit by a Meteor?”
