Currently, 2.1 million people are signed up to participate in the forthcoming Great Central U.S. ShakeOut earthquake drill set for February 7 at 10.15 am. The drill, which is organized by the Central United States Earthquake Consortium (CUSEC), is designed to coincide with the anniversary of the earthquake that struck New Madrid, Missouri in 1812. According to CUSEC, “Beginning in the last week of January and throughout the month of February, CUSEC and our Member States will host various activities to highlight earthquake awareness and preparedness. Activities include press conferences, seminars, workshops, Governor's proclamations, town hall meetings, exhibits and safety fairs, public service announcements, earthquake related training, and the 3rd annual Great Central U.S. ShakeOut.”
