A recent issue of Science magazine (May 18, 2012, Vol. 336) was dedicated to the special issue of “Human Conflict.” In the introduction the editors describe the issue as one in which, “We trace the trajectory of violence and war throughout history, exploring racism, ethnic conflicts, the rise of terrorism, and the possible future of armed conflicts. We also consider our innate capacity to mediate conflict and our ability to achieve – and live in – peace.” Articles in the special issue include “Parsing Terrorism,” “The Battle Over Violence,” “Tweeting the London Riots,” “Civilization’s Double-Edged Sword,” “Fighting Rituals,” and “Drone Wars.” The issue also contains a number of reviews of books drawn from the overall subject area.
