Secretary Janet Napolitano Delivers U.S. Coast Guard Academy Commencement Address

Thursday, May 17, 2012

On May 16, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano delivered the commencement address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for the 2012 graduating class. “Cadets, we live in a world of evolving threats and unconventional enemies; a world where the battlefield often has no boundaries or uniforms. You will don many hats as you leave this Academy, because it means a lot to be a member of the Coast Guard – you are rescuers, protectors, first responders, law enforcers, teachers, public servants. You graduate in a 21st Century anchored in neither the Cold War nor the conventional rules of warfare. In this ever-changing world, the only certainty is that you will be called to carry out many missions around the globe,” said Secretary Napolitano.
