Dr. David McIntyre, one of the Homeland Security Studies and Analysis Institute’s distinguished visiting fellows, recently shared his thoughts on “The Tyranny of Bad Ideas - Why Policy Makers Can’t Save America, but Data Analysts Might” as part of the distinguished speaker series sponsored by Analytic Services Inc.
In the presentation Dr. McIntyre asked, “Strategy, Policy, Operations. What’s wrong with this picture?” According to Dr. McIntyre, leaders create the strategic vision, managers translate vision into policy, and workers convert policy into operations. Do that efficiently and effectively and you win the game. The mechanisms of national power and domestic prosperity simply are not delivering the results that our theories of government, security, management, education and social behavior expect. He concluded that rigorous data analysis is a vital tool for solving some of the intractable problems we face.
David McIntyre, Ph.D. is Vice President of Academic Affairs, HSM at National Graduate School and University. He is the former Director of the Integrative Center for Homeland Security, Texas A&M University. He served as a member of the National Security Education Board and the National Board of Directors of the FBI’s InfraGard National Members Alliance, an academic advisor to the University and Colleges Committee of the International Association of Emergency Managers, and on the Steering Committee of the Homeland Security/Defense Education Consortium Association.
