The Combating Terrorism Center located at West Point, NY, released a report entitled, “Letters from Abbottabad: Bin Ladin Sidelined?” The report consists of a series of 17 de-classified documents captured during the Abbottabad raid and released to the Center. There are a total of 175 pages in the original Arabic and 197 pages of English translation of electronic letters or draft letters. The description of the documents on the Center’s website is of “Bin Ladin’s private letters” that focus on “Muslims suffering at the hands of his jihadi “brothers.” Bin Laden is “at pain advising them to abort domestic attacks that cause Muslim civilian casualties and focus on the United States,” a target Bin Laden refers to as “our desired goal.” The description of the documents also refers to “Bin Ladin’s frustration with the regional jihadi groups and his seeming inability to exercise control of their actions and public statements.”
