Reflection on Deepwater Horizon Incident Two Years Later

A recent Nature article calls attention to the release of the grade report issued by the presidential commission established following the Deepwater Horizon incident in 2010. While the commission no longer officially exists, Nature reports that “the commission…conducted visits and interviews under its own initiative ahead of the [oil rig] spill’s two-year anniversary on April 20.” Members of the commission, the article further reports, still feel that “many of the problems that led to the…spill have not been addressed.”

One result of the oil spill and subsequent response was the establishment of the Center for Offshore Safety, located in Houston, TX.

While the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling is no longer officially operating, the commission’s website contains a wealth of information, including congressional testimony, working papers, and the commission’s final report.
