Reppetto, Thomas. Battleground NYC: Countering Spies, Saboteurs and Terrorists since 1861. Dulles, VA: Potomac Publishing, 2012. (pp. 312, Hardback. $23.96)
A new book documents the history of how New York City has been the target of extremists. The author, Thomas Reppetto, chronicles the efforts by the city law enforcement authorities to protect the city and its residents. Reppetto, the former Commander of Detectives in the Chicago Police Department and former president of the Crime Commission in New York City, documents the actions of, among others, dissidents, communists, Nazi saboteurs, and Islamic extremists all of whom have targeted the city.
In an interview at the John Jay Criminal Justice College in New York, Mr. Reppetto tells the BBC that Americans were “late at learning from the British the Great Game of spies” and warns that “they are still amateurs.” For his part, he is not impressed by the police and FBI record in dealing with extremists’ threats against the city.
Police Magazine interviewed Mr. Repetto in a podcast posted on their website.
