28 - Governor Taft Announces Security Coordinator -- Governor
Bob Taft today named Colonel Homer A. Smith as Security Coordinator
of the State of Ohio Security Task Force. In this capacity, Colonel
Smith will report directly to Lt. Governor OConnor on all
state security matters and assist in the implementation of Task
Force security recommendations.

20 - Lt. Governor Maureen O'Connor Addresses Bio-terrorism
Conference -- Lieutenant Governor Maureen OConnor, chair of
the State of Ohio Security Task Force, today welcomed members of
Ohios medical community to a day-long conference designed
to brief and educate conference participants on bio-terrorism issues.
Conference objectives include assessing terrorism and emergency
preparedness, assessing expected state and national response to
a bio-terrorist event and reviewing infection control protocols
and personal protective equipment. Specific hospital needs and appropriate
responses also were discussed.

15 - Lt. Governor Maureen O'Connor Testifies on Anti-Terrorism
Bill -- Lt. Governor Maureen OConnor today testified in favor
of Senate Bill 184 before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Criminal
Justice. The anti-terrorism legislation, sponsored by Senator Robert
Spada (R-Parma Heights), legally defines an act of terrorism as
an action that is intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population
or government policy. The bill increases penalties for such offenses
and allows Ohio courts to use the death penalty in cases where a
victim was killed as a result of an act of terrorism.

19 - Ohio State Building Review Committee Releases Report --
In resposne to the September 11th attacks, Gover Taft of Ohio and
the State Building Review Committee released a report making recommendations
to improve security plans for protecting state employees and the

15 - Director of Ohio Department of Agriculture Issues Bioterrorism
Warnings, Advice -- In cooperation with the USDA Animal and Plant
Health Inspection Service, ODA issued the following warning to Ohio
residents associated with agriculture. This warning included advice
on how they should proceed in the event of a possible agriculture
bioterrorist incident.
