9 - Hoeven increases Guard at airports -- Gov. John Hoeven
today ordered a 25 percent increase over the existing level of deployment
of National Guard personnel at the states commercial airports.
The Governors directive to augment airport security came in
response to a request by President Bush to the nations governors,
according to Hoeven. The President authorized federal funding for
the newest deployment until January 6 to encourage the public to
travel over the holiday season.

16 - State Officials Outline Steps To Reduce Risk of Exposure
to Anthrax -- Careful handling of letters and packages can greatly
reduce the publics risk of exposure to anthrax, Gov. Hoeven
said at a news conference today. The Department of Health
and the Highway Patrol have determined that the current risk of
anthrax exposure and illness in the state is low, Hoeven said.
Nevertheless, we want to make sure the public is aware of
the steps they can take to keep themselves safe at home and at work.

4 - Hoeven Names Friez State Security Coordinator, Discusses
State Security Plan -- Gov. Hoeven today named Doug Friez, director
of the North Dakota Division of Emergency Management (DEM), as the
states Homeland Security Coordinator. Friez will promote statewide
security through a plan for coordinated preparedness, prevention
and response. Hell approach this effort through the combined
efforts of citizens; law enforcement authorities; state agencies;
political subdivisions; American Indian tribes; the National Guard
and various federal agencies, according to Hoeven.
