07 December 2001 - GOV. EASLEY ANNOUNCES SAFETY AND SECURITY WEBSITE -- Gov. Mike Easley today announced a new web site to help provide citizens with vital information on current safety issues and the latest updates on North Carolina’s security efforts. The new site can be found at www.ncgov.com under the link “Safety and Security.” The site contains answers to frequently asked questions on current health and safety issues, links to other local, state and federal resources, phone numbers and the latest news onall the steps North Carolina is taking to increase security. 26 November 2001 - EASLEY TO SPEAK AT TERRORISM AWARENESS WORKSHOP -- Gov. Mike Easley will speak at the Eastern North Carolina Senior Government Officials Terrorism Awareness Workshop on Tuesday (Nov. 27) at 10:45 a.m. at the Paradise Point Officer's Club at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville. Easley will talk about the state's efforts to increase security and safety measures.

06 November 2001 - STATE CHANGES ANTHRAX FIELD TESTING POLICY
-- The State of North Carolina today announced it is changing its ant
hrax field testing policy and directing its six Hazardous Materials Regional Response Teams (RRT) to no longer conduct field tests of suspicious substances. In the future, the teams will collect the substance, and local authorities will decide whether to send it to the State Health Lab in Raleigh for testing. Local authorities are advised to continue taking precautionary measures they deem necessary until the lab test results are available. [view press release]
31 October 2001 - EASLEY'S ANTI-TERRORISM EFFORTS MOVE FORWARD IN HOUSE -- The House Appropriations Committee today approved Gov. Mike Easley's request for resources to further address the State's most urgent security needs. HB 1471 authorizes the Governor to access up to $30 million of the rainy day fund to further enhance the ability of the state's terrorism task force to improve emergency response and preparedness in North Carolina. The bill also provides $1.9 million in additional funds to the State's Division of Emergency Management.
