November 27 - Acceptance of the Report of the NH Commission on Preparedness and Security -- The remarks of Governor Shaheen, as she accepts a report developed by the New Hampshire Commission on Preparedness and Security. Shaheen indicated in her remarks how the Commission also was instrumental in coordinating New Hampshires state homeland security efforts, including airport security. [view press release]
November 27 - Assessment of New Hampshire's Preparedness and Security -- The following report was submitted to Governor Shaheen by the New Hampshire Commission on Preparedness and Security, as a method for improving the state's readiness towards potential terrorism incidents and highlighting current areas of weakness. November 26 - Governor Promotes Role of Technology in Improving Security -- Lieutenant Gov. Jeanne Shaheen today said effective deployment of technology will be the key to improving the safety of our transportation systems and borders without hindering commerce and trade at a tour of Imaging Automation in Bedford. Several New Hampshire companies produce technologies that will be critical as the nation improves security in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks, including Imaging Automation, which develops and manufactures state-of-the-art document authentication and identify verification technologies used in immigration, border control, passenger processing and fraud detection. November 15 - Lt. Governor Maureen O'Connor Testifies on Anti-Terrorism Bill -- Lt. Governor Maureen O’Connor today testified in favor of Senate Bill 184 before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Criminal Justice. The anti-terrorism legislation, sponsored by Senator Robert Spada (R-Parma Heights), legally defines an act of terrorism as an action that is intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population or government policy. The bill increases penalties for such offenses and allows Ohio courts to use the death penalty in cases where a victim was killed as a result of an act of terrorism. [view article]
October 31 - Governor Shaheen, Attorney General, Safety Dept. Propose to Update Laws, Impose Stiff Terrorism Penalties -- Gov. Jeanne Shaheen, Attorney General Phil McLaughlin and Deputy Safety Commissioner John Stephen today proposed legislation to update New Hampshire's laws to address biological and chemical terrorism and hoaxes. The legislation would make it a Class A felony to deliver a biological or chemical weapon to a public facility and a Class B felony to threaten another with a biological or chemical substance and to falsely report a biological or chemical attack, or to commit a so-called hoax related to chemical or biological weapons.
