17 October 2001 - Michigan Leaders Briefed on State Response to September 11 Attacks; Highlight Tough Penalties for Those Who Make False Terrorist Threats -- As acting governor, Lt. Governor Dick Posthumus convened a meeting of state leaders today for an in depth briefing on Michigan’s response to the September 11 terrorist attacks. Attendees included Attorney General Jennifer Granholm, Secretary of State Candice Miller, the Michigan Supreme Court, bipartisan legislative leaders, state department directors and other top state officials. 16 November 2001 - Michigan's Anti-Terror Strategy Approved by U.S. Justice Department;Among the First States to Submit Plans to Dept. of Justice -- Governor John Engler said today that the U.S. Department of Justice has approved Michigan’s anti-terror strategy and terrorism threat assessment. The plan – one of the first submitted to Washington – was developed by the Michigan State Police (MSP) Emergency Management Division with information and support from 94 emergency management programs statewide and the review and approval of the Michigan Anti-Terrorism Task Force. 12 October 2001 - Michigan Participates in "Auction for America" to Benefit Terror Victims; Governor Donates Red Wings Jersey and MSU Hockey Stick -- Governor John Engler announced today that items donated by governors across the nation will go up for bid on Monday in the "Auction for America" sponsored by eBay. Michigan’s contribution includes a 1996-1997 Red Wings championship jersey personalized for Governor Engler and a Michigan State University hockey stick autographed by Coach Ron Mason. 03 October 2001 - City of Detroit Announces Increased Security Measures At Coleman A. Young Municipal Center -- Additional security measures are now in place at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center (CAYMC), formerly the City-County Building. Visitors entering the municipal center must pass through metal detectors. In addition, purses, briefcases or other packages are subject to search. Visitors and employees are not allowed to bring prohibited items, such as firearms, knives, other weapons, etc., into the building. [view press release]
