14 November 2001 - Governor Ryan Announces Supplemental Request to Boost Homeland Security Efforts, Combat Bioterrorism: $17 Million Needed Immediately for Labs, Police, Fire and National Guard Builds Upon Proactive Efforts of Terrorism Task Force. [view press release]
06 November 2001 - Mayor Daley (Chicago) today announced that the City will invest another $375 million in neighborhood improvements across Chicago and add $76 million in security improvements while also protecting residents from any new taxes. The budget adds $76 million across all funds in emergency preparedness, health and security over the next year. [view press release]
02 November 2001 - National Guard to Provide Visible Security Presence at Nuclear Plants -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced the Illinois National Guard will take a more visible presence at Illinois Nuclear Plants joining security measures already in place. This enhanced visible presence will last throughout the period that U. S. Attorney General John Ashcroft indicated American citizens should be on a heightened state of vigilance. [view press release]
31 October 2001 - City Council Approves New Emergency Evacuation Procedures for High Rise Buildings in Chicago -- For the first time in Chicago's history, the City Council today approved legislation introduced by Mayor Richard M. Daley that would create standards for emergency evacuation procedures and improved safety regulations for all high rise non-residential and residential buildings in Chicago. [view press release]
23 October 2001 - Governor Announces Homeland Security Regional Training Seminars -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced the schedule and locations of a series of 16 statewide Homeland Security training seminars. Governor Ryan directed the Illinois Emergency Management Agency to coordinate the regional seminars last week. The seminars are scheduled to begin October 29 and conclude on December 7. 18 October 2001 - Governor Ryan Announces Safe Airports for the Economy -- Gov. George H. Ryan today unveiled a comprehensive, long-range, regional aviation plan to stimulate the economy by building an airport in Peotone, modernizing O'Hare with a reconfigured airfield, utilizing Meigs Field and Rockford's Airport, and enhancing the security of Illinois airports with a $300 million low-interest loan program to purchase security technology. 15 October 2001 - Governor Ryan says State Preparing for Terrorist Threats -- Governor George H. Ryan today briefed state and local officials on the state of Illinois' domestic preparedness, which includes a fully trained Illinois Terrorism Task Force formed by the administration last Spring. The Governor also named a state Homeland Security Coordinator to continue coordinating on domestic security issues with the White House. [view press release]
