Governor Owens Announces Creation of Colorado
Office of Preparedness and Security

DENVER - Governor Bill Owens will announce the creation of the Colorado Office of Preparedness and Security at a press conference Wednesday at 9:00 in the Office of Emergency Management, Camp George West, Golden, Colorado.

The Colorado Office of Preparedness and Security is being created to bring focus and structure to planning and preparedness in the event of a terrorist threat or event in Colorado. This new office will be under the direction of C. Suzanne Mencer, Executive Director of the Colorado Office of Security and the Office of Anti-Terrorism Planning and Training.

The mission of the Colorado Office of Preparedness and Security is to coordinate planning, response, and training efforts in state and local governments for all matters pertaining to terrorism, capitol and executive branch safety, fire safety, and general security matters.

The Office of Anti-Terrorism Planning and Training will establish a working group focused on terrorist threat assessment which will include all pertinent state and federal agencies, cities and counties involved in the protection of information or physical security of the state.
